Summary
A bisque-headed doll in costume, possibly Breton. She has moulded and painted facial features and a partially-detached light brown mohair wig. The body, arms and legs are made of painted composition. She is wearing a black linen long-sleeved dress which has narrow yellow braid at the hem, cuffs, waist and down the front of the bodice, and a stiff white collar. Over the front of the skirt is a pale blue apron which has narrow white lace at the lower edge. Underneath she has a petticoat and drawers made of a white stiff open-weave fabric. Her black boots are painted on. She is also wearing a white linen cap with a narrow lace trim.
Provenance
Part of the Derbyshire Museum Service collection which was moved to Sudbury in 1972 to help form the basis of the Museum of Childhood collection. The original donor's name is given as 'Gregory'.
