Summary
A doll's (1940s with typical 1930s styling) grey metal pram painted with a gold coloured trim and a 'boat' shaped body called 'The Golden Ace' and manufacturered in the 1940s by 'Charles Twigg and Co', Aldridge Works, Aldridge Road, Perry Barr, Birmingham, 22. The company were manufacturers of 'Burflam' pressure lamps, stoves, prams, tricycles, and bicycles during the 1940s and 1950s. The donor was born in 1942 and remembers playing with the pram in the late 1940s, aged 7 or 8 (approx). The pram may have been given to the donor as a second hand gift, but she can't be sure of this. It has a grey painted fabric folding hood and matching apron. The body of the pram is attached to the sprung chassis with four adjustable leather straps with metal buckles. There are two metal axles attached to the chassis, each supporting two metal spoked wheels. Each wheel has a solid black rubber tyre. The foot operated brake mechanism engages on the front wheels. The plated metal handle has a turned wooden handrail covered with a cream plastic sleeve. The interior of the pram is lined with a cream fabric coated with a plastic or vinyl covering. Sitting on a wooden frame in the base of the pram are three, identical removable panels covered in the same fabric. On a transfer on the front of the body of the pram is the maker's name; ‘The Golden Ace’. Total number of items is 6.
