Summary
A number of pieces of doll's house furniture and accessories dating from c. 1935 (contents from Betty Cadbury's doll's house number: 665529). These include: 1) A doll's house size wooden chair with turned front legs, stretchers and back uprights. Between the back uprights are two horizontal rails supporting a piece of gold coloured velvet with a matching fringe. The seat is also upholstered in gold coloured velvet, with a flower design and edged with a matching fringe. 2) A doll's house size glazed china-headed doll with painted facial features and painted black hair. The doll has un-tinted bisque lower arms, hands, legs and feet. She is wearing a blue and white striped fabric dress; a cream fabric apron and a dirty cream lace cap. She has a cream underskirt, possibly canvas, a cream petticoat with lace edging and cream drawers. 3) A doll's house size wooden sewing table (possibly made by Walterhausen) supported on two shaped legs (one leg partially broken off and missing). On the single stretcher is a red velvet foot rest. The table top is hinged and when opened reveals a mirror on the inside lid and a set of compartments. These contain two ivory or bone bodkins; half of a pair of scissors; two balls of wool, one red, one yellow; two balls of thread, one orange and one red. Presumably the sewing table is part of a set with the matching chest of drawers (DERSS : 21715/7); the card/sewing table (DERSS : 21715/5) and the cabinet/ desk (TEMP.818.1-4). 4) A doll's house size silver (hall marked) candlestick holding a candle. Handle attached to the circular base. 5) A doll's house size varnished wooden table with a round top, turned pedestal and square base. 6) A doll's house size varnished wooden table with an octagonal top supported by a square pedestal and base. The pedestal is decorated with red and blue paint marks. Original documentation reads 'Furniture contained on top floor landing of dolls house'. Total number of items is 14.
