Summary
Cardboard and plastic packaging containing a Clarke tin whistle, painted black, cylindrical in shape with a piece of wood inside the top. The whistle is similar to a recorder with six holes and a larger hole at the mouthpiece. The whistle is painted black and is decorated with seven gold coloured diamonds between the holes and the words '1843' and 'Clarke'. The packaging also contains a book entitled 'The Clarke [registered] Tin Whistle Since 1843' in gold coloured lettering on a black background. There is a colour illustration of a boy in a blue hat and red shirt playing the whistle. Sealed above the book is a music cassette tape containing eighty six pieces of music with the same title and illustration. These items are sealed apart from the tin whistle which can be removed from the packaging, because the top is slit. The cardboard background is brown in colour with a union flag in the top right corner with 'Since 1843' below. The name 'Clarke' is in large gold coloured lettering and printed in black below is 'The Original Tin Whistle, Designed and Hand-Crafted in England since early Victorian Times'. The back of the packaging gives information about the history, the Clarke company and an extract from 'London Labour and the London Poor' Volume 11 1861, as well as information concerning the author of the tin whistle book.
