Summary
This object consists of an original box containing 52 blocks. (circa 1863). The box, in two parts due to a broken hinge, is made of wood covered with green paper. On the lid of the box is a picture of a Victorian family of father, mother and three children on a balcony. Across the top of the picture is written 'PRINCIPAL EDIFICES/ OF EUROPE', in the bottom left hand corner 'Hauptgebande/ von/ EUROPA', and in the bottom right hand corner 'Les Edifices/ PRINCIPAUX/ DE L'EUROPE'. On the bottom of the box hand written in ink is 'Anna Elizth. Baker/ 25.12.1863/ from her Papa'. Inside the box are three sheets of paper illustrating the pictures that can be made. There are 52 blocks that are six sided. Four of the faces are rectangular and the remaining opposing faces are diamond shaped. The blocks are covered with paper and can be assembled to make the pictures. It appears that four of the blocks are missing. Total number of items is fifty seven
