Summary
A bisque-headed doll, probably made by Armand Marseille. She has a bisque head with fixed blue glass eyes, moulded and painted facial features with an open mouth (four teeth visible) and a blonde mohair wig which is quite short at one side and long on the other, with a pink ribbon bow in it. The head swivels, and the body, made of composition, is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees. She is wearing a very long, cream, linen dress decorated at the neck, armholes and hem with wide lace, which is also used each side of a panel set into the front of the skirt. At the lower edge of this panel is a broad piece of broderie anglaise. The dress is gathered at the neck and waist with drawstring ties which fasten at the back. Underneath she has a full, cream, linen waist petticoat which is trimmed with narrow broderie anglaise and fastens with a tiny button. Under this are cream linen drawers, trimmed with lace, which fasten at the waist with a drawstring tie. Attached to her left wrist by silver-coloured metal wire is a posy of dark red and pink fabric flowers with green leaves. The doll and her clothes are quite dirty, and there are a few small holes in her dress.
