Summary
A doll's house size wooden shop (circa 1830) consisting of three vertical walls and a base. The walls are covered with paper decorated with a red design. Attached to the back wall is a unit consisting of a central arch flanked by sets of drawers, all resting on a counter. Above the drawers are two decorative pieces of wood. The base of the shop is covered with square patterned paper, to represent a tiled floor. The central arch is flanked by two pilaster columns and contains a central shelf. On either side of the arch are fitted drawers. There is space for nine drawers on each side but one drawer is missing and one drawer is broken. The drawer handles are made from nails. Each drawer is individually labelled. The labels on the drawers read as follows - rice, raisins, cinnamon, French Blums, cayan, currants, sugar, candy, white pepper, currants, almonds, vermicelli, cayan, tea, coffee, f[ ], [ ], salt. The 'Tea' drawer possibly has a woodworm hole. There are a pair of detachable panels with architectural mouldings. One of the panels is glazed and its architectural moulding at the top has broken off and is missing. The panels stand at each side of the front of the shop. The shop wooden shop counter is rectangular and panelled. There is a male shop assistant made of plaster standing on a square wooden base and wearing painted dark jacket and trousers. The contents of the shop consist of 10 wooden goblets; 1 copper jug; 2 copper kettles; 1 wooden salt box and 4 boxes of tobacco (made of wooden blocks covered with paper labels with colour illustrations).
