Summary
An 'F.H. Ayres' /Slasinger' (Frederick Henry Ayres), England (probably) pull-along 'platform and wheels' type toy horse and cart (1920s or 1930s). This English company were one of the leading toy alongside ' Lines' and operated from 1864 to 1940. The horse is painted silver with black hooves and has horsehair mane and tail. Leather bridle and collar. The horse stands on a wooden trolley with four wheels and is attached to the cart by three chains. The trolley is painted maroon. The cart has two large wheels and two shafts. A board attached to the front of the cart has the name F.H.AYRES painted on it but the horse has no maker's mark. The back piece of the cart can be removed - it is held in place by two pegs, both of which are missing. The piece is held in place at present by a 'roller blind acorn-shaped pull' and the handle of the string pulled the toy. The cart exterior is varnished. The string to pull the toy along is fastened to the front of the horse trolley and has a silver painted wooden wedge handle. Total number of items is three
