Summary
A wax shoulder-head doll. The shoulder portion has been damaged (the right shoulder appears to be missing) and repaired with adhesive strips and fabric tape. Facial features are moulded and painted with brown glass eyes. The hair is very short, blonde and mohair. The body, upper legs and upper arms are of stuffed cloth, the rest of the arms and legs are of wax and stitched through holes on to the cloth parts. These holes are reinforced with metal rivets. The doll is dressed in fine cotton, cream-coloured petticoat which is very long, has 12 pin tucks above the underedge and has narrow lace edging the neck and armholes. The skirt is gathered where it joins the upper part at the waist. Under this is a cream-coloured flannel petticoat with a scalloped embroidered edge, which is fastened with ribbon ties at the front. Under this is a very short shift which is in the same fabric as long petticoat, with similar lace at the neck and armhole edges. On the doll's feet are cream-coloured crocheted bootees with ribbon ties. Also in the box with the doll are the following items of clothing - A Christening gown in the same fabric as the long petticoat, which has similar pintucks around the lower edge all around except at the front where a broad panel of pintucked broderie-anglaise and lace decorates the entire length. There is more lace at the sides of this panel and at the neck edge, lower edge and the cuffs of the long gathered sleeves, which are also decorated along the length with broderie-anglaise. The dress fastens at the back with narrow tapes; A cream-coloured brocade cloak, lined with silk which has a smaller cape (attached at the neck) over it.It is fastened with two sets of wide ribbons and has deep scalloped lace along all the lower edges. Total number of items is three
