Summary

A girl's sailor suit in a heavy cotton material (circa 1910 to circa 1925). The blouse has an attached dark blue square collar with three white lines round its edge, and a front opening that ties with a tape. It has dark blue cuffs with one button each. One button is missing. The separate collar is dark blue with three white lines of braid round the edge. It has a hole to put the head through, and at the front it divides into two long tails which are sewn together for the lowest 80mm. A long white strip of material is sewn to the back of the neck. A child's plain white, cotton, skirt. The skirt is made from a heavy cotton. It has a wide waistband which fastens with 4 linen covered buttons. The buttons are arranged 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom. The bottom right button is bent over at one side and the metal is showing. The buttons are positions as described so that the skirt can be adjusted. The skirt is gathered at the waistband. The gathering is concenrated near the button area, then is less gathered at the front. The skirt has a wide hem. Total number of items is 3.

Inside the back of the shirt, on a label with the royal coat of arms: 'LANCASTER AND SONS/ ROYAL NAVAL TAILORS/ PORTSEA.'
