Summary
A wax shoulder-headed doll with moulded and painted facial features and blue glass eyes. She has a blonde mohair wig. Her head is badly cracked. Her body and upper legs are of stuffed stiffened linen, and her arms and lower legs are of painted composition. She is wearing a pale green woollen dress which has smocking on the bodice back and front, pintucks near the hem, and narrow lace at the sleeve cuffs and at the neck edge. It fastens at the back with a tiny plastic button. Underneath she has a cream linen waist petticoat which has pintucks and embroidery round its lower half, and lace at the hem. Under this is a cream flannel waist petticoat which has embroidery near the scalloped hem. Both fasten at the back with small buttons. Under this is a full-length cream linen petticoat with embroidery and narrow lace at the armholes and neck edge, and cream linen pantaloons which have embroidery and narrow lace at the hems. Her white socks and black shoes are painted on. Also in the box is a cream-coloured card which reads 'School-Children's Needlework, Calwich Abbey, Amateur Art Society. First Prize. Standard V. Awarded to Mildred Swinscoe Marston, Montgomery, Judged by Margaret Sinclair, Linda Booth'. There is also the card which accompanied the competition entry, which reads 'Calwish Abbey, Amaeur Art Society Exhibition, Section D, Standard V, No. 926' on one side, and is folded in such a way as to keep the competetor's name secret until after the judging.
