Summary
A baby's long cream flannel barracoat (circa 1880 to circa 1910) open all the way down the back. The full skirt is pleated on to the bodice, which has cream cotton tape binding all the edges, and forming two shoulder straps. The ends of the bodice at the opening overlap (and taper) to extend to the sides, one of which (the left) has a slit (with bound edges) for the flap to protrude through. Each flap has a length of tape at the end for the garment to be fastened. There is an almost square piece of fabric added inside the front of the bodice, sewn in place with several concentric rows of stitching. This is rectangular pattern is thought be very unusual. There are a few tiny holes in various places on the garment.
