Summary
A child's collarless jacket (circa 1860) made from a silk/wool blend and patterned with small blue ovals, lined with cream cotton. The dress that matches this jacket is recorded as 658408. It has long sleeves below which it flares out. Around the sleeve cuffs and over the shoulders it is decorated with strips of blue ribbon and patterned braid and rosettes made of blue ribbon with a ribbon-covered button at the centre, one on each cuff and one at each end of each shoulder piece. Approximately 50mm away from the front and lower edges the jacket is trimmed with a length of narrow blue velvet ribbon. It fastens by means of two metal hooks (one of which is missing) and thread 'eyes' at the front edge. The jacket is very stained and has several holes.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs D. Clifford in June 1976.
