Summary
A child's early 20th century white linen petticoat (circa 1900 to circa 1920). the garment has a round neckline and a full skirt gathered on to a high bodice. This bodice has been shortened by the insertion of a deep pintuck. At the lower edge of the skirt are six narrow pintucks and a frill which has three more pintucks and a narrow lace border. It fastens at the back by means of two lengths of narrow tape threaded through channels at the neck edge and at the lower edge of the bodice. The waist seam has come apart at the left side of the centre back, and the fabric is torn below the left armhole. At the top right edge of the back opening, on the inside, is 'MSI' (written with a laundry marking pen?).
