Summary
A child's late 19th or early 20th century white linen petticoat (circa 1880 to circa 1910). The garment has a low round neckline edged with narrow broderie anglaise, as are the armholes. It is sewn in seven panels to give it shape. At the lower edge are four narrow pintucks and a deep broderie anglaise border. It fastens at the back between the neck and the waist with three fabric-covered buttons and corresponding buttonholes. There is also a length of narrow tape threaded through a channel at the neck edge. Just below the top button, on the inside, is a piece of tape with 'Alexa' embroidered in white.
Marks and inscriptions
