Summary
A boy's white cotton short-sleeved half-mourning dress (circa 1871), trimmed with lace and black braid. This dress belonged to a boy called Travers Buxton (born 10.12.1864) who wore them on the death of his mother in 1871. The dress has a round neckline trimmed with cotton lace and black braid and short sleeves, with broderie anglaise inserts, cotton lace edging and black braid decoration. The bodice is front opening and has two metal hooks, one fastened by a metal hook and one by a thread loop and four linen buttons, all fastened with thread loops. The opening is hidden by a broderie anglaise insert. The skirt is gathered into the waist and has a broderie anglaise insert above the hem. The sides of all the inserts are decorated with black braid. The front and back of the bodice and skirt are decorated with black braid, in a frogging design. The cotton fabric has a horizontal ribbed weave.
