Summary
A cream coloured silk child's cape (mid 1880s - 90s). There are two silk ties at the neck and two metal hooks and waist, one at waist missing. It would appear that the cape hooked onto another garment. The skirt is gathered onto the bodice and has three rows of tucks topped with pin stitching. A wide band of silk with two rows of tucks and pinstitching is gathered and attached, with piping, down the front and around the hem. The front edges of the cape are shaped at the lower edge. A shorter cape is attached to the neck the material of which consists of rows of braid in the shape of a collar which is edged with piping. Gathered onto this is a frill of the same rows of tucks as the skirt. The cape is lined with cotton.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs C. Fawcett in July 1975.
