Summary
A long white linen robe for a baby, with long sleeves edged with lace and gathered into bands of braid and a high bodice into which the full skirt is gathered. At the front, the centre third of the bodice is gathered at the bottom edge into the seam and at the top into a curved yoke made from inset panels of broderie anglaise alternating with braid, with narrow lace at the neck edge and a broderie anglaise frill around the edge of the curve. The skirt is very long and the lower third is decorated with three sets of seven narrow pintucks separated by pieces of broderie anglaise ending with a deep broderie anglaise frill at the hem. At the neck edge and lower edge of the bodice are channels through which narrow cotton tape is threaded, to be tied at the back. There are a few tiny stains, and a small hole in the right back piece of the bodice.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs C. Fawcett in July 1975.
