Summary
A cream woollen baby's christening or 'carrying' cape with three layers (circa 1860 to circa 1880). The quilting is possible done by hand. The short and long capes are edged with a border of quilted, cream silk. The short cape and collar and edged with silk tassels. The collar, short cape and front sections of the main cape are lined with cream silk. The back section of the main cape has a cotton lining. The cotton is badly stained and and the front edging has been patched. There are signs of insect damage in the wool. The silk lining is shattering in places.
