A baby's white linen first shirt (circa 1850 - circa 1900). The shirt opens at the front and has two flaps which extend above the neckline at the front and back, these are folded down to protect the baby's skin from coarser material which is wrapped around its body, over the top of the open shirt. The shoulder splits are trimmed with broderie anglaise. The sleeves are also trimmed with broderie anglaise and have a row of feather stitch embroidery.
