Summary
A baby's long cream cloak with cape (circa 1840 to circa 1860). It is made from very fine wool, lined with cotton, possibly to be worn at a christening. The main cloak is gathered on to a yoke at the shoulders, then at the neck edge the cape and collar are attached. The cape has curved front edges, and the whole free edge is bordered for approximately 100mm with rows of cream braid (in a pattern of two narrow, one broader and decorated, repeated once). The collar also has curved front edges, bordered with the broad, decorated braid. There is a length of broad cream silk ribbon at each end of the collar, for fastening.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr Germany in May 1973.
