Summary
A boy's cream ribbed, cotton, summer coat (circa 1890 to circa 1900). This coat is identical in style to another garment - inventory number 658094. The garment fastens as for a boy. This has a large collar edged with a wide band of cotton lace which is scalloped on both edges. This collar comes to two points at the front and one central one at the back. The bodice is wide and at the back the skirt joins the bodice with a wide pleat. The skirt is flared, with a broad band of the same thick cotton lace scalloped on both edges. The coat/dress opens all the way down the centre front and fastens with four large mother of pearl buttons with a press stud at the neckline. The dress has long sleeves gathered into a broard cuff which is overlaid with a band of the scalloped edged lace. The bodice is lined with a cream cotton material. On the inside of the neck are sewn in a couple of strands of red cotton.
