Summary
A childs orange linen two piece 'buster suit' with a stain on the front of the top (circa 1929). The top is smocked in white with white linen collar and cuffs. The top fastens at the front with two sets of four pearl buttons with loops to fasten. The short trousers attach to the top with two large pearl buttons at the front and at the back. The collar and cuffs are hand edge stitched in orange cotton. This garment is a 'buster suit', comprising of a shirt and shorts set, usually in matching or toning fabrics, for slightly older boys'. This 'buster suit' can be seen in the photograph of an orginal painting - inventory number 658047. Gladwyn Richard William Turbutt aged 2 can be seen wearing this suit in the painting (painted in November 1929 by G.F. Bird) Total number of items is 2.
Provenance
Donated to the National Trust in 1973 by Mr Gladwyn Turbutt. A collection of mid 19th to early 20th century children's and babies' garments (also three black and white photographic studio prints of children from the family). All these items came from the donor's family home.
