Summary
A pair of green-blue velvet child's breeches (1870s or 1880s) in 1820s style. The matching jacket is recorded as 667720. The breeches fasten at the sides with button holes. There are a further two vertical button holes along the top of the waist band. The inside lining is cotton ticking. The breeches are stained, possibly with mould. The lining is different fabric to the jacket. There is a gap in the seam which is possibly for 'emergencies'.
Provenance
Donated to the National Trust in 1973 by Mr Gladwyn Turbutt. A collection of mid 19th to early 20th century children's and babies' garments (also three black and white photographic studio prints of children from the family). All these items came from the donor's family home.
