Summary
A pair of green velvet child's breeches (1870s or 1880s) in 1820s style. The jacket that matches these breeches is recorded as 658036. The breeches fasten at the sides with button holes and fasten to the bodice. There are a further two vertical button holes along the top of the waist band. The inside lining is cotton ticking. The breeches are stained in places. Gladwyn Maurice Revell Turbutt (1883 - 1914) who is the donor's uncle can be seen wearing the suit in a black and white photograph taken in 1889 - inventory number 663727.
Provenance
Donated to the National Trust in 1973 by Mr Gladwyn Turbutt. A collection of mid 19th to early 20th century children's and babies' garments (also three black and white photographic studio prints of children from the family). All these items came from the donor's family home.
