Summary
A card game entitled 'Old Maid' published by Evans and Sons Registered Card Games (circa 1900). Consisting of forty nine cards with eight 'sporting' categories - cycling, boating, footballing, hunting, cricketing, fishing, golfing and tennis and one card depicting an 'old maid' in a green dress having a cup of tea. Each category (six cards) has a colourful drawing on a white background of a 'father', 'mother', 'son', 'daughter', 'grandfather' and 'grandmother', each depicting the named sport. The reverse of the cards is yellow with a black pattern. The cards are contained in a two-part red box, an outer and an inner part. The outer part has a card depicting the same 'old maid' drawing and has pencilled marks 'R 1/6' on the top left-hand corner of the card. There is a pale-blue card advertising card and puzzle games with the name 'Evans and Sons' registered card games - post free, one penny extra' on the top of the card. Total number of items is 52.
