Summary

A mid 20th century card game entitled 'Animal Families', with it's orginal cardboard box and printed instructions (possibly 1950s). Manufactured by Paul and Marjorie Abbatt Ltd, Britain - a company in production between 1932 and 1973. The game consists of fifty two colour illustrated cards which depict wild animals from all over the world. Forty of the cards have on them a black and white map in the top left hand corner which shows the country the animal comes from. Below is an illustration of the animal and below this is black text giving the name of the animal followed by three other related animals from the same country. For example 'Hippotomas, Ostrich, Gorilla - African Elephant'. There are eight cards which are identical in format to the forty mentioned above, but the map has been replaced by a compass illustration, with either the north or south points indicated. The remaining four cards are also identical, but these have no map or compass illustration. The orginal cardboard box has a white base and yellow lid. On the lid is a colour illustration of a merry-go-round sitting on a compass in which are a group of animals. Above the illistration is the text 'Abbatt Toys'. There is a set of instructions on a single sheet of paper which also gives the publisher details. Total number of items is 55.
