Summary
A set of playing cards in which aces are shown by one heart, club, etc (1885). Each card shows its value and suit in red or black, for example, the seven of diamonds shows seven red diamond shapes, but there are no numbers or suits in the corners. Picture cards are like modern ones except that there are no letters or suits in the corners. Five cards are missing, but there is an ornamental card without value showing, which appears to be the ace of spades. The backs bear a coloured pattern of leaves with pink flowers and white fluffy fruits, possibly cotton. Printed in black on the ace of spades is 'Duty One Shilling, Honi Soit Qui mal Y Pense, Dieu Et Mon Druit, London, De La Rue And Co By His Majesty's Royal Letter Patent'.
