Summary
A child's cream bonnet (circa 1890 to circa 1910). Framing the face are six frills, namely lace, looped narrow ribbon, lace, lace, ruched silk and lace again. Just at the base of these frills at temple level are two very fancy silk ribbon bows. The body of the bonnet is made of cream grosgrain and gathered in a circular medallion on the back of the head. The body has 3 pieces of stylised floral embroidery sewn on to it. Around the neck is a lace frill and a satin trim with a bow in the centre back. The bonnet is lined with cream silk which has completely perished in places. It covers some sort of foundation of wadding. Any ties are missing.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs G L Howarth in 1977.
