Summary
A pair of children's cream silk fingerless mittens (circa 1850 - 1860). These are in a cream silk mesh with long cuffs. The palms and thumb are in a plain mesh with an open work edging of two rows of holes and finished with a tighter band. The back of the mittens and the sleeves are embroidered with cream silk forming diagonal lines. At the wrist are two plain cream bands with an openwork band between them. The cuffs have the same openwork band as the thumb and hand. Total number of items is 2.
