Summary
A baby's white cotton first shirt (circa 1850 to circa 1900) which consists of a long rectangle of fabric with slits down from the top edge each approx 8 cm long. Some of the flaps so formed are joined to make shoulders (2nd and 3rd and 5th and 6th), the others were probably folded over to tuck into another garment. There is narrow lace edging at the armholes, down the sides of the remaining slits, and across the remaining flap edges, with wider lace inserted at the shoulders. There is a narrow hem on the lower edge. There are a few small holes, a large tear in the front and a few small brown stains.
