Summary
Three tapestries from a larger series possible representing the Story of Alexander. Wool and silk. Flemish, possibly Oudenaarde, c. 1630-1660.
Full description
There are two large but incomplete tapestry panels and one fragment at Sudbury Hall, which are all related and are probably the remains of a larger set. The subject of the largest panel (no. 653297.1) could be ‘The Family of Darius before Alexander’, indicating that the set originally told the Story of Alexander. The two smaller pieces include warriors and other figures but their subjects are hard to discern. (Helen Wyld, 2013)
