Summary
One of a set of 13 carved white-painted wooden (elm) floral and fruit baskets set on mounts around the staircase. The set consists of: 4 full cylindrical designs set on posts (SUD/Sc/23i,j,k,l); 7 half-cylindrical designs against the wall (SUD/Sc/23a,b,d,f,g,h,m); and two quarter cylindrical designs in corners (SUD/Sc/23c,e). All moveable, except for the full basket at the foot of the staircase.
Provenance
Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to The National Trust in 1967.
