Summary
Oil painting on canvas, George Francis Augustus Vernon, 8th Baron Vernon (1888-1915) by Sir James Jebusa Shannon RA (Auburn 1862 – London 1923), signed and dated, bottom left: J. J. Shannon/1903. A full-length portrait as a young man turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, wearing the uniform of a page at the coronation of Edward VII (1903), consisting of a scarlet coat with gold frogging white satin waistcoat with gold frogging, white lace cravat, white breeches, white stockings and black buckled shoes. His right arm is by his side and his cocked hat with red plume is tucked under his left arm and he holds his white gloves in his left hand and also the hilt of his sword. Gothic pier to the right.

Acquired from 10th Lord Vernon in lieu of death-duties after the death of Francis Lawrence William Venables-Vernon, 9th Lord Vernon (1889 -1963) and transferred to the National Trust in 1967 through the National Land Fund
