Summary
Oil painting on panel, Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland by Sir Frederic Leighton, Lord Leighton PRA (Scarborough 1830 – Kensington 1896), 1884. This oil sketch, formerly catalogued as a view of Holy Island, actually depicts the view south along the Northumbrian coast from that site. Leighton has included the spit of land known as Ross Back Sands in the foreground and, on the horizon, the ancient edifice of Bamburgh Castle.

Marks and inscriptions
On reverse: Small writing says "Holy Island" and there is some stamped lettering. Paper label "Leighton".
