Summary
Oak bureau cabinet, early/mid c.18th; horizontal cavetto cornice over two doors whose panels have shaped corners; these enclose a range of twenty four compartments with ogee shaped 'valances', flanking a larger compartment and a small cupboard; below, a row of five drawers; the sloping fall supported on two small drawers of cabinet. Fall reveals ten concave drawers below nine compartments with two drawers behind pilasters, the surface slides back to reveal a storage well; the lower stage has two drawers as lopers, then two short drawers over two long, all cock beaded; all brass fittings are not original but in style. Address label on brown paper cut into strips and used to seal backboards: 'Miss Potter, (Sawrey) Ambleside', from 'Truslove & Hanson/Booksellers, Publishers & Stationers/6B Sloane Street, London SW'.
