Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Peregrine Langton (Massingberd) (1780-1858) by Felice Schiavoni (1803-1881), signed and dated, bottom right: F Schiavone f. V, 1843. A three-quarter-length seated to left, head to right, at a gilt table, wearing a black suit and maroon velvet cloak; a view of the Doge's Palace and S Giorgio in the background. A piece of paper on the table inscribed 'PM 1843.b.1780'(?) on a baroque gilt tabel with hs arms in a cartouche. Second son of Bennet Langton, married Elizabeth Mary Anne Massingberd in 1802 and assumed the name Massingberd when she inherited Gunby.
Provenance
1944, gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd.
