Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex (1566-1601), British (English) School, late 16th century. A head-and-shoulders portrait, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator. Inscription on reverse in Field Marshall's hand confirming identity of sitter.
