Inscribed with name of sitter, lower left: Mrs Stephen Massingberd/Gunby 1903. Inscribed on New Gallery label verso: 'Mrs Stephen Massingberd/Arthur Hughes/Eastside House Kew Green.' A three-quarter-length portrait, standing in the garden at Gunby. Daughter of Judge Vernon Lushington and wife of Stephen Langton Massingberd who inherited Gunby in 1897.

1944, gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd.
