Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, James Francis Edward Stuart, 'The Old Pretender' (1688-1766) by Veronica Stern (Rome 1717 - Rome 1801). Oval. Half-length facing, half left, in full bottom wig, with ermine trimmed scarlet robe and grey coat with gilt trimmings and white stock and a blue order sash. The four miniatures, which had been given to Mr Holt by Cardinal York, were bequeathed by him to his sister, Mary Countess of Haddington, and by her to her daughter, Mary, Countess of Rothes, wife of Bennet Langton, who gave them to her second son, Peregrine Langton. - 1944 inventory
