Summary
An earthenware box in the form of a book lying on its side with a circular hole in its upper face over which the detatched lid, in the form of a separate leaflet, sits. The box formed and painted to represent a leather bound volume with red leather spine and morocco boards. The cover, as a pamphlet in a yellow soft binding, inscribed in brown on the front face 'REVUE COMIQUE/de/L'EXPOSITION' and with a lamp and toadstools and an amazed miniature couple in mid 19th century dress. Also the date 1878 inscribed in brown at the top and on the 'spine' of the pamphlet. The bottom right hand corner of the pamphlet 'turned up' to reveal 'writing' (and also to form a handle).
