Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Lady Florence Cole/Townley Balfour (1779 - 1862) by Richard Rothwell (Athlone 1800 – Rome 1868). A half-length portrait, facing, head turned right, resting with proper right hand and elbow on plinth. She is raising her left hand to her left cheek, wearing a white dress, lilac shawl, “chapeau de paille” and three rich gold bracelets on her left wrist.
Provenance
Presumably painted for the sitter’s family, and thence by descent; removed from Florence Court by the 6th Earl and Countess of Enniskillen to Kinloch House, Aberdeenshire, in 197?; returned by Nancy, Countess of Enniskillen, shortly before her death, in 1998.
