Summary
Clock: Bracket clock, mid 18th century, ebonised, the Two-train, fusee driven movement striking the hours on a single bell, with engraved brass backplate decorated all over with foliate scrollwork, (the historic term for thes decoration is chinoiserie). The brass dial centre engraved with foliate scrollwork. A date aperture below the centre. Engraved Josh Alder London. the silvered chapter-ring with Roman hour numerals and Arabic 5-minute numerals enclosed by rococo-cast spandrels, the break arch fitted with a strike/silent silvered chapter ring, enclosed by a glazed door, the moulded cornice surmounted by a brass loop handle, brass acanthus bud finials to the angles, on moulded base and block feet. The movement has been converted from verge to anchor recoil escapement.
