Summary

Oil painting on canvas, Mary Elizabeth Elton (1816-1840), Jane Octavia Elton, later Mrs William Brookfield (1821-1896) and Arthur Hallam Elton, later Sir Arthur Hallam Elton, 7th Bt MP (1818-1883) with their dog 'Rob Roy' by Thomas Barker of Bath (1769-1847), signed and dated 1823. Children of Sir Charles Abraham Elton 6th Bt (1778-1853) and Sarah Smith (1782-1830). Portraits of three young children and a dog. Three-quarter lengths, the child on the left seated turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, holds a doll and has short pale brown hair and is dressed in white. The centre child also has short pale brown hair is gazing at the spectator and clasping the shoulder of the boy on the right with her left arm while stroking the chin of the dog with her right hand. She wears a white dress with a white collar. The boy on the right also with short light brown hair, gazing at the spectator, is dressed in a blue long-sleeved coat with a white frilled collar and is clutching his straw hat. The white and brown dog on the far right corner, is turned to the left, and wears a metal collar inscribed, 'ROB ROY'.
