Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Rhoda Susan Willis, Lady Elton (1809-1873) and her Daughter Mary Agnes Elton, later Lady Elton (1844-1926) by Albert Ludovici the elder (1820-1894), 1850-60. A pair of portraits of mother and daughter, Lady Elton on the left, turned to the right, gazing to the right, short dark brown hair, wearing a black dress and a white lace blouse with a lace collar fastened with small jewel at her throat she has a white lace handkerchief on her lap which she holds with her right hand, her left arm is around her daughter's waist. Her daughter sits on her lap on the right, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, short reddish hair, wearing a plum dress which is almost off-the-shoulder, with short sleeves, she is holding a jewel on the end of a slim gold necklace worn by her mother. Lady Elton was the daughter of James Legge Willis (1761-1817) and Flora Wynch (1776-1842); married (i) Captain James Baird and (ii) Sir Arthur Hallam Elton 7th Bt, MP (1818-1883) her daughter Mary Agnes Elton married Sir Edmund Harry Elton, 8th Bt (1846-1920).
