Full description
Guiseppe Maggiolini (1738-1814), became the pre-eminent cabinet maker in Milan at the end of the 18th century, specialising in Neo-classical marquetry panels within complex borders. His signature rectangular commodes were copied extensively but today they are still referred to as being in the manner of Maggiolini. He signed very few examples of his work, but one such commode is in the Museo Civico d'Arte del Castello Sforzesco in the city of Milan. He was born in and died in Parabiago, near Milan.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Dame Joan Evans DBE in 1978.
