Summary
A sugar box and separate cover (pot à sucre Calabre), soft-paste porcelain, painted with flowers in reserves against a oiel-de-perdrix (partridge eye) ground, base inscribed in blue enamel with four dots mark of Pierre-Théodore Buteux, a painter and gilder (act 1765-1784), a painter’s mark ‘f x’ for Francoise-Philippe Descoins (act. 1780-99?) a flower painter (1793-1804), and ‘RF’ (République Française) and ‘Sevres’, Sèvres, France, c. 1795. Note: possibly made as a replacement to an earlier service.
