Summary
Bobbin lace border. Cream cotton/linen thread bobbin lace, mesh ground, gimp motifs. Design; repeat 95 mm. Floral sprigs. Straight footing and heading, hemmed either end. Handwritten note by Lady Berwick reads: 'Old Lille, thick, no value'. Made in Lille, France, circa 1800.
Provenance
Found in envelope in white box with letter and Note. Label on Box A) 'Old lace to be repaired'. B) 'Burano lace - Mrs Hulton' (only Burano piece identified is ATT/TC/156). Found in box 14 pieces of lace ATT/TC/181-194. 8th Lady Berwick collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
