Summary
Carrara marble, Chimneypiece, 'Cupid rebuked by his mother Venus' , Boudoir, Attingham Hall by John Devall the younger (London 1728 - London 1794). Carrara marble chimneypiece with entablature on pilasters, console supports carved with petal motif and hung with harebell tassel. Repeated rosette design to frieze. Surmounted by circular tablet carved in relief 'Cupid Rebuked by his Mother Venus'. Sculpted by John Deval the Younger in 1785.
Provenance
1st Lord Berwick collection: Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick (1745 – 1789). By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
