Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Anna Vernon, Lady Berwick (1744-1797), attributed to Charles Robertson (Dublin 1759 – Dublin 1821), circa 1785. An oval head and shoulder portrait of a woman, turned to the right and wearing a white dress, with light brown eyes, pale complexion, powdered curled hair, dressed with pearls and blue ribbon, ringlets cascading about the shoulders. Against a plain grey background. Set in a gold locket engraved with two circles of chain. The miniature is traditionally attributed to Charles Robertson; if this is correct he was clearly working under the influence of Jeremiah Meyer at the time, probably in the 1780s. Anna Vernon was the daughter of Henry Vernon and Lady Henrietta Wentworth and was the granddaughter of the Earl of Stafford. She married Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick of Attingham, son of Thomas Hill and Susanna Maria Noel, on 17 November 1768 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England. She died on 23 March 1797. She was buried at Manfredonia, Italy. Her will was probated on 22 February 1798.
